Charge PS4 Controller using the USB Cable
This method is one of the simplest. All you need are your PS4 console and the USB cable that came along with your PS4 package.
[1] Connect the PS4 controller to its console using the USB cable.
[2] Make sure your PS4 console is either turned on or in rest mode. Only then your controller will charge.
[3] Press the PS button on your controller to check the charge level on your PS4 screen.
[4] It takes two hours to charge the controller completely if it did not have any remaining charge.

In order to charge the controller, when the console is in rest mode, you need to make the following changes in your console settings.
[1] When your console is on, go to Settings and then choose Power save settings.
[2] Choose Select features available in rest mode.
[3] From the options available, choose Supply power to the USB port.
[4] It will allow you to choose the duration of the power supply to the USB port. You can choose options like Always or Three hours based on your preference.
[5] As a result, your PS4 controller will charge, even when the console is in rest mode.

How to Charge PS4 Controller Wirelessly
If you are looking for an option to charge the PS4 controller without the USB cable, then you can go with the charging station. This allows users to charge the controller without the console. So you can charge the controller anytime even when the console is not in use. The charging station allows two controllers to charge at a time.
[1] Place the controllers in the charging station stand.
[2] Click down to charge and the orange light on the controllers indicates the charging status.
[3] The lights turn down when the charging is completed.
