How to Enable Picture-in-Picture on Apple TV
Use the steps below to enable Picture-in-Picture mode on Apple TV.
1. Turn on your Apple TV and play any content of your choice on a Picture-in-Picture-supported app.

2. Press the up button (2nd gen-remote or later) or swipe up on the touch surface (1st gen-remote).
3. Now, select the Picture in Picture icon in the right corner of the playback controls. The currently playing content will now play on a small viewer screen in the corner of the screen.
4. Then, select a different content for the large screen and start playing. The newly selected content will start playing on the large screen behind the small viewer screen.
How to Control Picture in Picture Screen
You can use the steps below to control the picture-in-picture screen.
- Switch audio from large screen to Picture in Picture screen: To switch to audio of the picture in picture screen, press the TV button on the Apple TV remote. To switch back to larger screen audio, press the back button < or the Menu button.
- Move the Picture in Picture screen: Press the TV button on the Apple TV remote and click the icon on the right side to the close icon to move the small viewer screen to a different corner of your Apple TV screen. You can use the same icon to move the small viewer screen to different corners.
- Return to full-screen view: Press the TV button on the Siri remote and click the icon on the left side to the close icon to make the small viewer screen return to full-screen mode.
- Close the Picture in Picture screen: If you no longer want the picture in picture mode, press the TV button on the Apple TV Siri remote and select the Close icon to close the PiP screen.
How to Control the Larger Screen
Use the steps below to control the larger screen while using Picture-in-Picture mode.
- Swap the screens: Press the up button or swipe up on the touch surface, and click on the Picture in Picture icon. Now, select Swap to play the PiP mode content on full-screen and full-screen content in PiP mode.
- Move the small view screen: Click on the Picture in Picture icon on the playback controls. Select Move to move the small viewer screen to a different corner of the screen. You can use this option to move the small PiP screen to different corners of the screen.
- Close picture in the picture: Select the Picture in Picture icon and select Close to terminate the picture in the picture screen.
